OUR STORY

On Friday, October 21, 2016, Shelby had a friend from high school visiting her in CO that had a friend from college named Vraj in Denver. Vraj had a friend from a NASA internship back in FL named Arun, who was currently in Boulder visiting his friend from grad school, Nick, who lived there. Shelby’s crew went to Boulder to meet up with Nick and Arun who were out with their mutual friend Goran, and Nick’s roommate, Kyle. After meeting out in Boulder, Nick and Shelby were vibing on each other all night. It got late, and Kyle said he had enough couch space for everyone to sleep over if they wanted. Shelby asked where she could sleep, and Nick showed her to a couch in the finished basement, which was adjacent to Nick’s bedroom. Once he showed Shelby to the couch, he went back upstairs to rejoin the group. Now alone in the basement, Shelby found a pen and paper and wrote down her name and number. She snuck the paper into Nick’s room and left it on his night stand and then went back to the couch to go to sleep. When she woke up in the morning, she had a text from Nick, and it was on. They all kept hanging out all weekend – not leaving Boulder until Monday morning when everyone had to go to work. After that, Nick and Shelby saw each other nearly every weekend, and the rest was history.

In August of 2017, Shelby started law school in Boulder and got to see a lot more of Nick – practically living with him at Kyle’s house in Boulder. In February of 2018, Nick and Shelby got their first dog together, sweet Koda. In July of 2018, Nick and Shelby officially moved in together to a small house in Longmont. In May of 2019, Nick graduated from his PhD program in Aerospace Engineering from CU. In May of 2020, Shelby graduated from law school at CU. In May of 2021, they got their second dog together, Huxley. In July of 2022, they left the Longmont rental and bought their first house together on 3 acres in mountainous Conifer, where they have lived deleriously happy ever since. On May 10, 2024, Nick proposed marriage, and Shelby said yes. On August 16, 2025, they will say, “I do,” and begin the rest of their lives together.
